My little trooperDate: 6/18/2006
My computer has been to update as much as I would like. Pictures will come later, but here is an update on my Addie Mei.Adeline has been a real trooper after her surgery!! She broke the large splint they put on after surgery after just 24 hours. We went to the doctor and they put a smaller thumb cast on. This was much better, as I actually could get her clothes over this cast. Very little fit over the club she came home in. The cast did not slow her down at all. Aside from a few frustrating moments of not being able to use her hand, she didn't miss a beat!! She got to go swimming (cast covered quite well) and she loved it! She got the cast off on June 9th. We left that day to come up to MI and spend time with our family. She didn't like to look at her thumb once the cast came off. She would look at it and cry everytime the first couple of days. I am sure it looks different with the extra tip removed. She has gotten better with it, but everytime we remove the splint, she has to touch it and nod her head. I think she is reasuring herself that it is OK. Everyone up here keeps commenting on what a different child she is. She is much more social and interactive with everyone. She gives kisses freely to the family and she seems to be quite comfortable around them. We are spending 2 weeks here so she can really get to know her family. We have spent a lot of time at my parents trailer on the lake. She LOVES the water!!! I think some swimming lessons are in her near future!! My mom hosted a "Thank Yu" open house for the people at their lake. They have been so supportive and concerned over her. It was great! Addie Mei handled it very well and flirted with many of the guys that came. So much for her fear of men!We celebrated her birthday a month early, as no one from the family will be able to come to us for her actual birthday. We had everyone together and celebrated Father's Day, my nephews birthday and Addie Mei's 1st and 2nd birthdays. I wanted her to know that we honor her first 20 months of life in CHina. We missed her 1st Birthday together, but that doesn't mean we don't celebrate it. She had a bit of a hard day since her nap was cut short. She also was a bit overwhelmed with everyone and all the commotion. She did have a better evening once we got back to my sister's house where we are staying. We pulled out her toys that she got and she had fun playing quietly.As I said before, I will upload pictures later, hopefully this week yet. Surgery
Addie Mei's surgeryDate: 5/25/2006
Addie Mei had her surgery on Monday to remove the extra tip on her thumb. We had the surgery at Riley Children's hospital and everything went great.The doctor removed the tip and then repositioned some tendons and ligaments. He had to put a pin in the thumb to hold all in place. She come out with a soft splint up to her arm pit. I was a bit surprised, as I thougt she would only have a little thumb slint on. Getting her dressed is quite the ordeal. I have NO shirts that have sleeves that fit over this thing. I had to go to Goodwill and buy a jacket to cut the sleeve off from. She has to wear the hospital shirt that she came home in to bed. It is the only thing that would go over her arm that she could sleep in.She did have a hard time coming out of the aneasthesia. She had to have some medicine for nausea and that seemed to help. Only after three bouts of throwing up red popcicle on Mama's white sweater. Lesson learned!!!!!!!She seems to be handling it all very well. Only a little cranky the first day or so. I have taken her off the strong pain meds, as I think they made her very aggitated.We do have to go back to the doctor today, unplanned. She has broken the splint already. She falls a lot with the extra weight on hr already weaker right side. She catches herself on both hands, and has broken the splint. Yesterday, we went into the garden and Addie Mei got to pick her first strawberry!! She did very well. She then proceded to eat the strawberry. Good thing I do not spray!!! I told her that we only pick the very red ones. he looked around and saw another and went right to it!! I think she is really understanding a lot more everyday!!! I got pictures of her in the garden in her album.On we go!!!

1st Mother's Day

What a blessing this little girl is t ome!! She wa sso sweet this morning! She woke up a bit earlier than usual for a SUnday, so I was not showered yet. We had breakfast and then she just wanted to sit on my lap and read book after book! It was precious. We would finish one, she would bring it back to the shelf and bring another. I loved every minute of it!! Once we were ready for church, I took out the video camera and she had a lot of fun hamming it up for the camera. We went to the full length mirror and she had so much fun watching herself. Thankfully my digital camera has a timer on it, so I was able to get some good pictures of the two of us together today!! They are in her albums. Thanks for sticking with us even after 2 months of being together!! Your support and prayers are so needed!!Love,Tamie and Addie Mei

2 Months together
2 Months alreadyDate: 5/10/2006
Wow,In less than 48 hours, Addie Mei and I will have been a family for 2 months. Time is flying by and I am loving every minute, well almost every minute!! She is so much fun and laughs so easily now.It is really hitting me that I finally get to celebrate my first Mother's Day!! For so many years I would cry as this day approach, thinking I would never get to celebrate it as a mother. God has changed all of that for me, and I am so excited to have this special day with Adeline!! I am sad that I can't be with my family to celebrate, but we wil lmake the trip up again in June to visit for awhile.Adeline will be undergoing her surgery to remove the extra tip on her thumb soon. It is scheduled for May 22nd. It is a minor operation, but she will have to go under general anaestesia(sp?) She will come out with a pin in her thunmb and a cast on her hand for a few weeks to allow all to heal up and to keep the pin in place. I am able to stay home with her for a couple of days after the surgery to make sure she is doing well and handling the pain medicine alright.She has been doing great in her therapy with First Steps. She is getting stronger everyday and learning new things everyday, not all good I have to say. She is almost 2 and is showing the signs of the terrible twos already!! She has gained 1 pound since we have been home!!!! She is still way underweight, but we are moving in the right direction. Thank you for continuing to follow along with us!!! One month together
Home one Month!!Date: 4/26/2006
Well, we have been home for just over one month and Addie Mei has changed so much! She is the love of my life and brings so much joy to our home. Her laughter is contagious and she has such a beautiful smile.We took our first road trip to MI for Easter. What a blessing to have our entire family together for celebrating the resurrection of our Lord. I was so overjoyed to finally be able to teach Addie Mei about Jesus and to begin showing her about His love for her. Addie traveled very well. She slept some, played some and watched some Barney! She loves the singing and music and watching the kids dancing. Portable DVD players are truely wonderful!!Since we have been home, Addie Mei has had many visitors. Some friends from MI have come down for visits and we also have done some visiting of our own. She is doing better everyday with new people. W got to go visit the Children's Museum with my friend Jody and her daughter Ari. The two of them had so much fun on their visit!!!!Addie went to her first track meet on Monday. She loved it!! She really loved the athletes and played with them very well. Good thing because she is going to be at many track meets in her lifetime!!Yesterday was Mama's first day back to work. It was very hard on me to leave her, even though she was in the great hands of my dear friend. I made it about 3 blocks before I cried and I only called about 3 times throughout the day. We both made it though. Today, I am paying the price a bit as her behavior is not up to her best and I can't leave the room. I know it will take some time for her to get used to me leaving her and that I am coming back. I only work 2 days this week, three next and then full time for the rest of the year.We went today to have out first professional pictures taken. She did OK, so do not expect too much. I think you will really like the one picture we got of her though!!!Tonight we get to welcome home our new friend Esther. She is bringing her new parents home from China and we can't wait to meet her!!! As I mentioned before Addie Mei's behavior is not up to par today, so I had better sign off. Doing Great
Doing great!!Date: 4/3/2006
For those who are addicted to the website, I thought I would send out an update. The decision to stay home and not go to FL was a goo done for us! Adeline is really starting to feel comfortable in our home. She has allowed me to leave the room for a brief couple of seconds, as long as I came right back. She has actually ventured away from me a time or two, only to find herself in a bit of a panic when she realizes that I am not following her. She comes back to the room she left me in quite quickly.I know this is all good and normal trust building stuff. I am happy to see her developing that trust with me. I am very concerned about returning to work too soon, though. We are just starting to have the trust, and I do not want to leave her too soon and break that trust. I have had a few panic attacks at the thought of returning to work full time too soon. I am off at least until April 24th. We are going to have to re-evaluate things at that time. Please pray for us as I have to decide what is best for both of us.Adeline has been meeting so many new people. She has handled it wondefully. She has enough stranger anxiety to know I am safe, and comes to me for comfort. I truely believe she is starting to understand who I am too her, that I am not just another nanny in her life. She is eating wonderfully now! Praise God. She eats everything that I prepare for myself, within reaosn. New things take a few tries to get her to keep it in her mouth. She loves lasagne!! A girl after Mama's heart. She has completely switched to whole milk, and is doing great, no allergies to note there. She does have a skin rash that she has had since we have been home. I have switched detergent to a dye and fragrence free to see if that helps. She does not appear to be allergic to the dog or cat, thankfully! She is being evaluated by First Steps, an early educational/developmental intervention program. I am sure she will qualify, simply because she doesn't speak English and she also has some fine motor issues. We go to the International Adoption clinic on April 12 and to the hand surgeon on April 21st. After that we follow through with whatever is reccommended.I am not only overjoyed with how well Adeline is dong with everything she has been through, I am down right impressed. She is just taking things in stride and moving on. I am sure she has things she will have to deal with, but she seems to be doing great!!That is about it for now. Great Day
Wonderful day yesterdayDate: 3/31/2006
We got to get outside yesterday while the weather was just beautiful. Adeline got to experience grass fro the first time!! She was not too sure about it and she was VERY apprehensive about trying to walk on this green, unstable, lumpy stuff.She just squatted down and touched the grass. She would put one blade in between her fingers and try to pull it. It was so cute to watch her soak it all in. I did get her walking a few steps on it. I can't wait until the weather breaks for good, and we can just love it outside all the time!I was able to get all the flower beds cleane dout while she was napping! I can accomplish things and be a Mama at the same time!! I was beginning to wonder if there was anything other than play time as a Mama. I can;t believe how much time can be spent playing with a toddler and loving every minute of it! Things are definitely different when the child is your own!!!!!!She has been doing great with meeting all the new people in her life. Everyone has been so considerate of the many changes in her little life, but have been wonderful! Hope you all have a great weekend!!Love,Tamie and Adeline
